  Description: 

Performs non-routine lab procedures for the development and optimization of immunoassays in support of new product development and clinical feasibility studies.  Involved in technically diverse projects which vary in complexity. Typically receives general instructions on non-routine duties. Consistently exercises discretion on assigned projects.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the research, development and optimization of immunoassays in collaboration with others on assigned projects.  Meets deadlines specified in overall project schedules.
  • Exercises technical discretion and judgment within broadly defined procedures and practices, in the design, execution and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. Plans and executes simple experiments independently. May plan and execute complex experiments independently.
  • Makes detailed observations.  Analyzes data using statistical methods. Interprets results and documents conclusions.
  • Maintains strict laboratory notebooks and research records.  Performs laboratory procedures and practices in compliance with Quality System requirements and standard written laboratory procedures and protocols. May provide input into development of laboratory procedures and protocols. Identifies any safety issues in the lab and other work areas and recommends and implements solutions for improvement as necessary.
  • Prepares technical reports, summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses that accurately and clearly communicate necessary information.
  • Investigates, creates and develops new methods and technologies for project advancement.
  • Applies professional concepts, in accordance with ProteoGenix objectives to solve moderate to moderately complex problems in creative and effective ways.
  • Maintains high level of professional expertise through familiarity with scientific literature.  May participate in scientific conferences and contribute to scientific journals.
  • Provides necessary training to Research Associates and other personnel as required.
  • May be responsible for identifying patentable inventions.
  • May act as a principal investigator in conducting own experiments.

RELATED BUSINESS/ TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of and application of chemistry principles, theories and practices; understanding of scientific basis for work  
  • Understanding of immunoassay techniques or equivalent related techniques
  • Demonstrated ability to decide how to apply technical knowledge to achieve desired results, with some guidance from Supervisor
  • Familiarity with lab equipment of varying complexity
  • Demonstrated competence in report writing and advanced computer assisted data handling skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills; ability to work as an effective team member, demonstrating tact and cooperation
  • Ability to solve problems of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires an evaluation of identifiable factors
  • Working knowledge of P.C software, preferably Word and Excel
  • Attention to detail

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in life science or equivalent scientific discipline* and 3-6 years related work experience
* Masters degree in life science or equivalent scientific discipline and 1-3 years related work experience.
